United States Lincoln Cent (Penny)

The Lincoln Cent was first introduced in 1909 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth, making it the first U.S. coin to feature a historical figure. Designed by Victor David Brenner, the obverse features Lincoln's profile while the reverse has varied over the years, with the Lincoln Memorial design used from 1959 to 2008, and the Union Shield design introduced in 2010. The coin is composed of copper-plated zinc since 1982, replacing the earlier 95% copper composition.
