Garbage Pail Kids trading card titled 'Metamorphosis Matt' by Topps

Garbage Pail Kids trading cards were first released by Topps in 1985 as a parody of the popular Cabbage Patch Kids dolls. The cards featured grotesque and humorous characters with pun-based names, quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon among children and collectors. This particular card is from the 2022 'Book Worms' series, which parodies famous literary works, with 'Metamorphosis Matt' being a spoof of Franz Kafka's classic novella 'The Metamorphosis.' The series continues the tradition of combining pop culture references with the brand's signature gross-out humor. Garbage Pail Kids cards appeal to nostalgic collectors who grew up in the 1980s and 1990s, as well as modern trading card enthusiasts who appreciate the satirical artwork and cultural commentary. The 'Book Worms' series particularly attracts literature fans and educators who enjoy the clever literary references. These cards are valued for their artistic merit, social commentary, and the nostalgia they evoke, making them popular collectibles at comic conventions, trading card shows, and among pop culture memorabilia enthusiasts.
