History
The Walking Liberty Half Dollar was minted from 1916 to 1947 and is considered one of the most beautiful American coins ever produced. Designed by Adolph A. Weinman, the obverse features Lady Liberty striding toward the sunrise, draped in the American flag, while the reverse depicts a majestic eagle perched on a mountain crag. The 1938-D issue from the Denver Mint had a relatively low mintage of 491,600 pieces, making it one of the scarcer dates in the series. This coin is highly prized by numismatists and collectors of American silver coinage for its artistic merit, historical significance, and silver content (90% silver, 10% copper). Walking Liberty Half Dollars appeal to both type collectors seeking examples of classic American coinage and date/mintmark specialists completing full sets. The coin's design was so beloved that it was revived for the American Silver Eagle bullion series beginning in 1986, introducing it to new generations of collectors.
