History
The Washington Quarter was first minted in 1932 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of George Washington's birth. Designed by sculptor John Flanagan, it replaced the Standing Liberty Quarter and has remained in continuous production ever since. The coin features Washington's profile on the obverse and originally displayed an eagle on the reverse until the 50 State Quarters Program began in 1999. This particular coin appears to be from the State Quarters series, which ran from 1999 to 2008, featuring unique designs representing each U.S. state. These quarters are widely collected by numismatists and casual collectors alike, representing an accessible entry point into coin collecting. The State Quarters Program generated enormous public interest and introduced millions of Americans to numismatics. Collectors value these coins for their historical significance, artistic designs, and the nostalgia associated with completing full state sets.
